Wildling - The Guardian by JenZee Wildling - The Guardian by JenZee

//Edit: Changed the water :) Hopefully it's better!

Finally got around to finishing it :). It's probably a good thing that I took so long to pick this piece back up again, as I had a fresh mind to doodle with! Thank you all for being patient and taking the time to look!

A wildling I suppose, but not as in Wildling from George R R Martin >_> (obviously). But yes.... For those of you who asked (on the WIP) whether or not I would give him pupils (to which I replied "NO"), I lied >_>. I changed my mind^^. Ermmmm, water was fun, but I kind of wish I had done "still" water... Oh well. This piece is comprised of many of the things which I wanted to challenge myself with...

1. Feet
2. Water
3. ENTIRE BODY IN PIECE~!!! I recently realized I barely ever do this. The Itachi piece was also me starting this "entire body" trend ^^.
4. Backgrounds. Backgrounds backgrounds backgrounds backgrounds. If you have any tips I would LOVE to hear them T_T. I suck ;_;. This is one of my most complete backgrounds ever to date X_X.

Must improve! Must improve! Must improve!!! T_T
Anyway, elf d00de ;) Thanks again :O!!! Comments/crits/etc are all appreciated.

Here are detail shots of the face and body:

Full view is right. Really well done. This looks like it should be a fantasy novel cover or something.

Just when i've lost hope to see any more good Earthdawn art...
You're saving my hope.
JenZee Featured By Owner Aug 29, 2006  Professional Digital Artist
No idea what Earthdawn is LOL!
MacKotek Featured By Owner Aug 29, 2006
I've just noticed, that it's "Wildling", not "Windling".
Note: Earthdawn is an heroic fantasy pen and paper RPG. Windlings are small, winged, elf/faerie-like creatures.

Thankee :) Though the more I look at it the more I want to change a lot of it X_X. Perhaps I will go back and do it~~. Glad you like it though, as it is  ~

I know how you feel that's what I think about all my old art but if this much people like it *points at all the comments* it has to be very good the way it is now. It's possible to paint one piece of art forever and still feel unsatisfied with the result, maybe it's just your attitude. You should give yourself more credit for your achivements.

OMG..this picture is awsome.
The colours, the baground...the CHAR!!! ...I think I'm in love

Eeep, so very pretty! I love the design of armour and spear and I think the background is really nice even though the water looks a bit flat (but then water is a nightmare to draw).
Great job!
JenZee Featured By Owner Jun 14, 2004  Professional Digital Artist
Thanks Silgoe! Yeah, I don't have much practice drawing water, but I'll be sure to study it more in the future X_X. Hard to draw, but rewarding if you get it right! :D  Very happy you like it!

I like it Jenn... Is the water supposed to be moving or still... its not reading as either really..... hmm.. Overall great job tho. I like his elvishness!

wow, excellent piece :) although the focus lies clearly on that elf you have a good amount of detail in the environment. maybe the plants in the right don't look as detailed as the ones in the left, but hey, peanuts.
I think still water would have worked better, but this fine as well. my only crit is his (from the viewer) right arm. there where it touches the body it looks a little shivery. but that's all, the rest of the body looks good. good job on the feet, they look natural :)
and you say you suck at backgro¨nds? well, you don't suck as much on them as I do :D
no, really great picture, I think the other comments and the fav- count say this too

Wow, you did such a great job on this. ^^; Ya, I noticed that you didn't include too many backgrounds in your pieces but you did a good job on this one. The detail was more on the character so the background didn't take away from it. Man... this is just awesome. Very natural and relaxed looking. The colors and lighting were just right. ...I envy. ._.

.....FREAKNRADCORE!!!!! anywho *cough* the detail in the hair eyes and the tear in his pants all really stood out the background..I think anyway complements the rest of the picture and the water looks fantastic:D

very well done, i like the foot especially, mmmm foot...........ahem, anyway good movement in the this piece, and you can totally feel the spots of sun and the late afternoon in the south of france. hahahah i sound like such a dink! this rules!! i could be like 'however, it is obvious by the tilt of the spear that the artist was sexually repressed in her early childhood years' aAHAHAHAH wooo that's how you gotta talk in art museums, pretend to be some snotty critic. anyhoo, again, awesome work! i love your stuff!

so much detail! I'm jealous of your foliage skills <3
very cool to add all the organic elements in his costuming
such creativity! :D
anniefelis Featured By Owner May 24, 2004
Ahhh! It's finally done! I know that you've been working on this for a while. It came out managed to put a full-body subject in the picture AND add in a decent amount of scenery. That in itself deserves kudos. He has such cool seems sort of randomly constructed, which is way groovy. And I like the water...yes, yes. *nods*

I have no idea why, and this is going to sound slightly weird, but this guy's face looks to me like Donny Yen. I don't know why, but it does. I think I'm crazy.
Anyhow, another beautiful piece of work. What i like most about your work is the painterly feel - it just totally looks as if it could be a real oil painting or something. And so many of your strokes are free and easy, not very structured, almost Impressionist in their freedom of style. That's a good thing, a very good thing. :) Your strengths definitely lie in clothing and anatomy, both of which are stunning here. I don't think you're that bad at backgrounds - you're a hundred times better at them than me, me who avoids them at all costs because she knows she'll screw them up. ;p Nevertheless, while the background here isn;t bad at all, I can see what you mean about it. It just feels...rushed, compared to the evident detail you have so lovingly lavished onto Donny Yen (sorry, I'm going to have to call him that now ;)). Nevertheless, having said that, it's still pretty damn good - I'm really impressed with the water, the way you've brought out the choppy waves and the reflected colours - very skillfully done. So don't fret too much. Once more, I'm in quiet, appreciative awe, and hope to get this good someday.
Anyway, that's it for today, I need to revise!

The water is beautiful...almost hypnotic in the way the lights and darks flow and clash together. Also, the background and greenery is perfect...detailed enough to be stunning but not overly so. Good Job
kelvinz Featured By Owner May 24, 2004   Photographer
lol nice ferns! and i hope his spear gets washed away by the river =P

One thing that I find highly distracting is that the left side of this drawing is pretty refined and detailed and the right side is kinda blurry and blah.

Oh whatever you always get a +fav from me
